Its definitely hard to keep watching for me right now but I want to finish the show and Im also just very into the setting. I wish Id known that the show keeps getting better and better (I think many will agree that S3 is a very enjoyable season - probably the best the show has to offer) before falling off that hard. HOWEVER (!) with that in mind, Im very sure you will have a great time with S1-S3 and wont regret watching it/getting invested. ![]() Im very sure you will be disappointed at some point (possibly the very point at which I almost got angry at the writers because of what they did to "my show"). Romance drama, love triangles, fake conflict caused by misunderstandings and incomprehensible betrayals So if you are somewhat like me and have a serious aversion against I also enjoy historical accuracy but didnt mind the (huge) freedoms the writers took during the early seasons (just because of the acting, the cinematography and story), but at some point after S3 I wondered why they even choose to "base" their show on somewhat historical source material just to throw everything away and write something that is completely made up - and very (very) hard to believe. (I should point out that there are some interesting and believable storylines past S3 and that the acting and cinematography stays at a very high level! Some scenes from S4 and S5 are just amazing and the camera crew/post production really did a great job!) The writing - in my eyes - became so bad, that I truly wondered if they swapped out the writers/showrunners. Some characters seem to loose all their braincells and reasoning just for the sake of drama. Conflict between characters just for the sake of having conflict. ![]() There is a point in the show after which most conflict seemed very made up to me. The main problem (without getting too much into the details and therefore spoiler you too much) is very much what you describe asįake conflict caused by misunderstandings and incomprehensible betrayals The acting is great! The scale of the production is amazing and the cinematography very (very) enjoyable.īUT the show, in my eyes, got (much) worse at the end of S3/with the beginning of S4. ), but the stories feel like "sagas" in their own right. You shouldnt expect much historical accuracy (leather armours, no helmets, shaved heads, tattoos, strange rituals. So Ive watched the greater part of Vikings now (a few episodes into season 5): the show starts off with (imho) 1-3 (very) good/entertaining seasons. Funny enough I just created a reddit-account to ask this community a somewhat related question. ![]()
